Are you a Parent and Community Friendly School?
- Is the school clearly marked for directions to enter the school,
find the office, etc?
- Do staff and faculty maintain positive attitudes about the school, other employees, and the district (especially in front of guests at the school)?
- Are activities, assemblies, and other school functions obviously displayed and advertised?
- Are guests received with appreciation for attending forums, parent nights, committee meetings, open houses, etc.?
- Are the following readily available and easy to find: school website, numbers, extensions and directions.
Office Staff
- When someone enters the office, do you greet or acknowledge them within 30 seconds?
- Do you greet people who enter the office with a smile?
- Do you readily know the names of volunteers who frequently work at the school?
- Do you answer the phone with a pleasant greeting?
- Do you answer the phone by the 3rd ring?
- Are you knowledgeable about the school’s procedures and policies?
- Do you present yourself in a helpful and gracious manner?
- Are you sensitive to needs of other school employees, students, parents and community members?
- Do you present yourself in a professional manner (dress, attitude, and cooperation)?
- Are you prepared to respond to disgruntled parents and community members with patience and understanding?
Administration/Teachers/Support Staff
- Do you answer phone calls or emails within 48 hours?
- Do you present yourself in a helpful and friendly manner?
- Do you greet parents with a smile?
- Do you come prepared to parent conferences? (up to date grades, behavior and attendance reports).
- Do you maintain a positive attitude in front of parents about their child, the school and the district?
- Are you willing to discuss and find solutions to (their child’s) school problems?
- Do you use parent-friendly lingo (explain programs with patience).
- Do you encourage parents to volunteer at school?
- Are you understanding of home issues (financial, emotional, family problems).
- Do you offer the available resources within the district to solve issues?
