How can I build and maintain communication
with my child’s school?
Communication with your child’s school is a key for a successful year for your child. Parents are encouraged to build and maintain communication with school. As students enter middle and high school, parents feel the need to “let go” but these are crucial times when communication with your child’s teachers can promote the success of your child.
Go to Open House - This is a great way to begin a relationship with your child’s teachers. It gives you the opportunity to:
Meet the teachers (during positive circumstances).
Understand the procedures of the classes and school.
Learn about the expectations teachers have set for the students.
Collect Contact Numbers - Create a phone list of all important contacts in the school.
Front office (grade level office)

Collect Email Addresses - Teachers sometimes have difficulty returning phone calls because of their schedule and yours. Email can be a great way to keep in contact with your child’s teachers for academic progress and behavior updates.
Conferences - We encourage you to make an appointment for a conference to speak with your child’s teachers.
Attend Events - Participate in Parent Organizations, Family Nights, Performances, Games, etc.
Read Those Newsletters - Most schools send out monthly calendars and newsletters with information about the school and upcoming events!
Teachers want you to be involved! They want you to be your child’s biggest supporter!
Make arrangements with teachers at the beginning of the year on how you should be contacted and the best way to contact them.
